Useful Information for Diablo CA
Diablo is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California, located 2.5 miles east-northeast of Danville. The population was 1,158 at the 2010 census. The name derives from the nearby Mount Diablo, which was named in the early 1800s.
In 1912 the charismatic entreprenuer Robert Noble Burgess purchased a local farm and transformed it into an upscale summer resort and country club with golf course, all of which eventually encompassed 50,000 acres, stretching all the way to the top of Mt. Diablo.
World War I brought an end to the Burgess enterprises. Members bought the club in 1961 and have owned it ever since. Today the community includes 400 homes and the golf course and club area total 115 acres.
